about starting this website
This is my first blog entry on this website. It's not ready yet as I'm still setting everything up, but I can already write down some of my thoughts about it, especially why I am starting it.
Because actually I don't really need a website.
I'm a hobby artist whose goal is not to sell a lot of art, because I fear of losing it as a hobby if I'd do so. I want to paint what I want, not what any customer wants - that's already the main reason why I quit my career in media design and 3d vfx to become a basic software developer with a lot of admin tasks. It's not the perfect job, but it pays well enough for me to enjoy my hobbies. And that's what I'm doing here, too.
Programming can still be a hobby of mine, sometimes, at least, when it doesn’t extend to a huge project I get bored about again, but a simple portfolio website is actually quite fun, especially after discovering neocities. Yes, I’m coming late to the party. I didn’t know the old internet was still somewhere out there without having to set up a server on my own which I’d be too lazy to. But I really do enjoy it! I’ve already visited a lot of other websites on neocities and am looking forward to which ones I’ll discover next. You can also find some here.
Anyways, the main focus on here is my art. Which, as I said, is just a hobby, but I’d love to have a portfolio. Simple for the fact to see myself how much I’ve already painted and how I may have improved, or how the art looks together.
Before I posted regularly on instagram, but I dislike the algorithm more and more, and the whole thing of social media, too. I can’t fight my unhealthy use of scrolling by contributing myself with posts. Though I won’t stop posting there, because there’s a community, too, and that’s important, too. But I want to post less, post whatever, and especially don’t want to treat it like a portfolio.
The portfolio will be here, now.
By now it is still quite empty, but the plan is to fill it with a lot of art and the stories behind the art (if there are stories, sometimes I also just felt like painting).
And also, maybe, to feel a little bit more like a real artists. Yes, I still want to treat it as a hobby, but you know, it’s about motivation, self appreciation and dreaming. For example, if you want to buy one of my paintings for 1 million euro, I woudn’t say no. Not even at far lower prices. Just ask if it’s available. But no need, this is still mostly about having fun.
